hi ana, im curious how you document your reading? i'm quite terrible at rating or reviewing books, and at most, i have some highlights that i've documented on literal.club. i'd like to get better at keeping some sort of reading journal so my reads dont go in one ear and out the other.

Hey Krys! I made my own Notion database that I use to track everything I read. Have tried a few other third party systems but in the end, the tool that I was already using just ended up being what worked and I’ve been sticking with it. Also like that I can customize it however I want! Sometimes I use the database entries to jot down quick notes or attach screenshots (haven’t quite mastered this yet but mostly my aim isn’t to remember everything I read, it’s to experience it). The books I really liked or that made me think tend to make their way into my journal. I do, however, like the idea of a reading-specific journal.

Literal.club looks good - tempted to try it… But if it ain’t broke…

oh i love that idea. dont know why i didnt think of it since ive been using notion regularly. what categories do you track in a database? i definitely lean towards experiencing books by default so what i'd like to try this year is having something i can reflect back on that's more than just quotes or highlights. also want to add im happy to see your newsletters in my inbox again!

I track the genre (and topic for nonfiction), gender of author, and have a tag for BIPOC authors as well as a checkbox for favourite reads.

Thank you so much for saying that, Krys! Appreciate you being here!
